Two versions share a song title, yet the opening line lands differently. Rather than deciding immediately which is better, choose one small passage both performances contain.
Keep the comparison anchored
Find the same lyric or melodic phrase in each version and note its location. Listen at comfortable, comparable levels. A louder playback setting can influence your impression before you have noticed the performance itself.
Follow one decision at a time
Attend first to how the phrase begins and ends. Then compare the accompaniment around it: does an instrument answer, continue underneath or leave a gap? Distinguish a change in performance from an arrangement that changes what is available to hear.
Finish with a sentence naming one difference and its effect on your listening. You might prefer the spacious pause in one version while enjoying the rhythmic momentum of the other. A collection note can preserve both responses. It need not assign permanent rankings to performances that offer different pleasures on different days.
