Mal Hallett and his Orchestra, 9-20-43 « Grandpa's iPod

Two posts in one day… what is this world coming to?

Here’s Mal Hallett and his Orchestra, recorded at the Coconut Grove in the Park Central Hotel, mid-town Manhattan. I had a hard time finding out much about Mal Hallett other than that quite a few people left his orchestra and became big names–Gene Krupa, Jack Teagarden, Frankie Carle, and others. Even his Wikipedia page wasn’t very helpful.

The record begins mid-song, on “Take the A Train.” The program continues with “Do You Know,” “Business,” “My Buddy,” and “Song of the Islands.” Gene Jones provides vocals.
